Mount Allison Memorial Library

The Memorial Library was built to honour the following
Alumni who died in the First World War.
Many have no known grave, as their bodies were never found.

Please sign our petition and help to avert the demolition of the Memorial Library, and write to the Mount Allison President and Board of Regents at the addresses here to tell them that the demolition of this war memorial is unacceptable.

Gordon Valentine Boone (St. John's, NL) Canadian Field Artillery. Died April 27, 1915. Age 30. Buried at Hagle Dump Cemetery, Belgium.

Frederic Charles Burchell (Windsor, NS) Canadian Expeditionary Force. Died December 27, 1916. Age 23. Buried at Maroeuil British Cemetery, France.

Ace pilot, awarded the Distinguished Service Order and Bar, Military Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Croix de Guerre of Belgium.

Colin Crawford Gray (Yarmouth, NS) Mt A grad with an engineering certificate who then enrolled at McGill in the BSc program but enlisted in Jan 1916. Died in Sept 1916 in a sanatorium in Ste Agathe Que.

Rena MacLean (Souris, PEI) Canadian Army Medical Corps. Died June 27, 1918. Age 39. Killed when the Canadian hospital ship HMHS Llandovery Castle, on which she was serving as a nurse, was torpedoed by German U-Boat U-86, which then rammed the lifeboats and machine-gunned the survivors. The u-boat captain escaped punishment for the war crime.
